Biography
Antonia Campi dedicated all her work to the design of ceramics. After studying sculpture with Francesco Messina at the Academy in Milan, she decided to work with fired ceramics in 1947. A year later she became a member of the ceramic company Società Ceramica Italiana, which was based in Varese and existed until 1965. Soon she was entrusted with important commissions such as a ceramic decoration for the main entrance of the IX Triennale Exhibition of Milan. In 1956 Antonia Campi left the company to concentrate on her own new designs. In the same year she was awarded the Compasso d'oro for her metal household objects. After the death of the eminent ceramist and designer Giovanni Gariboldi, Antonia Campi succeeded him at Società Artistica Ginori. Her life's work was honored in a museum exhibition at the Centro di Ceramica in Cerro Laveno and in 2011 she was awarded the Compasso d'Oro for her contributions to the field of design and ceramics. Her works are represented in numerous design collections worldwide, such as the V&A in London and the MoMA in New York.
