Biography
Klablena's endearing ceramic animal figures continue to delight collectors all over the world to this day.
Eduard Klablena was born on 8 April 1881 in Bučany, Slovakia, formerly Hungary. In 1883 the family moved to Langenzersdorf near Vienna. From 1895 to 1898 he attended the technical school for belt makers, bronze workers and chasers. This was followed by internships at the arts and crafts schools in Vienna and Berlin, where he also taught from 1906. At the same time he worked at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin. He became one of the first members of der Deutsche Werkbund. In 1910 Klablena returned to Langenzersdorf and opened his workshop hiring three employees through time. Around 1920 Klablena sold about 100 of his models to Keramos Vienna, which had greater capacity for manufacturing. He died in 1933 and his workshop was finally closed in 1934. From 1911, he regularly exhibited at the Museum für angewandte Kunst, Vienna. We regularly sell objects by Eduard Klablena in our auctions.
