Biography

Angelo Lelii (Ancona 1915 - Monza 1987) was a designer and a successful entrepreneur with his Arredoluce company, founded in Monza in 1943. Born in Ancona, Angelo Lelli first moved to Milan with his family and then settled in Monza with his wife Rosa Bianca Bussetti, who was from Monza. The spelling of his surname has become established as Lelli, although the correct spelling is Lelii. Lelli designed classic chandeliers for hotels, cinemas and prestigious foyers as well as modern, almost futuristic-looking luminaires inspired by contemporary architecture, always placing the greatest emphasis on perfect workmanship. Many lighting designs were created in collaboration with his employees. To achieve perfect results, he invested in the best machines and even developed some himself to bring metal elements into the desired curved shape. Many of the company's iconic designs were created by Angelo Lelli himself, such as the so-called 'Triennale' floor lamp from 1947 or the 'Cobra - 12919' table light. Other renowned architects and designers also contributed to the success of the company such as Gio Ponti, Giotto Stoppino, Cesare Lacca, Elio Monesi, Ettore Sottsass and Nanda Vigo. Angelo Lelli's wife Bianca took over tasks in the administration, looked after and welcomed customers in the new large Arredoluce showroom with 13 display windows at Via Lecco in Monza, which was ceremonially opened in 1965 and which presented the entire Arredoluce collection. Angello Lelli's lighting design has been sold globally from the 1950s onwards, to Europe, the USA, Thailand and some Arab countries.
