Biography
Corrado "Dino" Martens was born at the 24th of October in 1894 in Venice. He was a glass designer and painter. He visited many courses by Ettore Tito and Umberto Martina from 1908 to 1912 at the "Accademia di Bella Arti". His work was already exhibited in 1911, but at that time he mainly painted and hadn't discovereed his talent in glass design yet. His development from a painter to an acknowleged glass designer was during his time in afrique, where he joined the italian army. At his return in 1939 he became the cultural director of the glass factory from Aureliano Toso. He designed many different designs during 1946 to 1960 and got well known because of his contribution at many ehibitions, projects and the biennial. At that time the painter stepped in the backround and the glass designer in Dino Martens got even more important. His glass objects got great acclaim, which was the direct opposite of his painting work, which was not exhibited. At 1959 he retired, but he still continued to produce designs until 1963 for the glass factory. Dino Martens died in September 1970 in Venice, where he spent his last years with painting.
