Biography
As the son of a merchant, Bruno Paul, born in Seifhennersdorf in 1874, was to learn a 'proper' trade. First he attended the Dresden Kreuzgymnasium and then the Friedrichstätter teacher seminar, where his artistic talent was recognized. So he switched to the Academy of Arts in Dresden and at the same time completed an apprenticeship in a construction office. In 1894 Paul moved to Munich and drew for 'Jugend' and 'Simplicissimus'. As an architect and furniture designer, he won three gold medals at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900, further awards followed in Turin, St. Louis and Dresden. At the instigation of Wilhelm v. Bodes moved to Berlin in 1907, where he remained until the end of his life in 1968.
