Biography
Marius-Ernest Sabino (Acireale 1878 - 1961 Paris)
The glass sculptor
Born in Sicily, the sculptor and carpenter attended the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs there after his family moved to Paris. He initially worked in his own workshop from 1913 onwards, designing electric lighting, but by 1920 he had expanded his range to include decorative objects and objects for everyday use made of pressed glass. His clients included the shipping company of the cruise ship 'Normandie' as well as the Shah of Persia. The Sabino workshop continued after his death in 1961 until 1975. After that the iron molds were sold to the USA.
In addition to regular participation in the Paris Salons, Sabino was also represented at the 1st Triennale in Milan in 1923, as well as at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels in 1925 and the Paris World's Fair in 1937.
