Edouard Marcel Sandoz (Basel 1881 - 1971 Lausanne)
Edouard Marcel Sandoz was born in Basel in 1881 to wealthy parents. He discovered his love of art early on and studied at the Haute école d'arts appliqués in Geneva from 1900-1903, then, at the recommendation of Emile Gallé, at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There he finally also set up his studio. His human and animal sculptures in various materials met with great success. He undertook many journeys abroad, among others to Spitzbergen and Mecca. In 1947 he was admitted to the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He died in Lausanne in 1971 while painting.
Sandoz took part in numerous exhibitions, for example the Salon der Société nationale des beaux-arts 1906 and the Salon de Société des artistes décorateurs 1911. At the specialized worl exhibition in Paris 1937 he presented his figurines at the Pavillion of the Société des artistes décorateurs.
