Biography
Theodor Schmuz-Baudiss (Herrnhut/Saxony 1859 - 1942 Partenkirchen)
Theodor studied in Munich at the Munich School of Applied Arts and at the Munich Art Academy. In the 1890s he worked as a freelance painter and regularly participated in exhibitions at the Munich Glass Palace. Around 1896 he began to work in the applied arts. Ceramics, furniture and designs for the ‚Jugend‘ magazine were created. In 1899 he began working with the porcelain factory Theodor Swaine & Co. in Hüttensteinach on behalf of the Munich Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk. In 1902 he moved to Berlin and worked for the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin. In 1908 he took over as artistic director of KPM, a post he held until 1925. Schmuz-Baudiss died in Partenkirchen in 1942.
