Biography
Maarten van Severen was a Belgian furniture and interior designer. He was born in June 1956 and died in Ghent in 2005. After successfully completing his architecture studies, he began to design furniture himself, which he produced in his own furniture workshop a year later. He also worked there with well-known architects such as Rem Kohlhaas. From 1996 he taught at various universities, for example the Universities of Helsinki and Barcelona, the Technical University of Delft and the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht. In the same year he began working with the furniture manufacturer Vitra. Two years later he created his most famous work, the "03" chair, which is still produced and sold by Vitra today. Other clients were Edra, Pisa or Pastoe, Houten.
