Goethe's Faust Part 1 with cover made of amber pieces, c. 1939
Bound in brown oilcloth with gold edges, front cover covered with pieces of amber and silver. With numerous black and white photographs of a performance of Faust by Hanns Holdt (1887-1944) and an original drawing for the "Prologue in Heaven" signed Merz.
Presumably custom-made. With a dedication to the previous owner.
