Figurative table light 'La danse, la Loïe Fuller', model for the Paris World Exhibition, 1900
Dancer with raised arms, the floor-length dress enveloping the body in folds, the long, loose hair decorated with a flower, and the veil thrown up in deep swirls in which two electric bulbs with sockets are hidden. H. 45.5 cm. Bronze, fire-gilded. Signed on the hem of the dress: RAOUL LARche and on the opposite side inscribed: round foundry mark SIOT-DECAUVILLE FONDEUR, I 925.

Provenance: Sotheby's New York, cat. 9238, December 17, 2014, cat. no. 363, since then in private German ownership. Exhibition cat. Masterpieces of Art Nouveau in the Bavarian National Museum, Munich-Stuttgart 2010, no. 4 and cover image. Raoul Larche created two further depictions of Loïe Fuller as Salome, cf. exhibition cat. A Document of German Art, Darmstadt 1976, vol. 2, no. 189, 190. The American dancer Loïe Fuller enchanted visitors to the Paris World Exhibitions with her veil dances in the specially created pavilion, and in 1892 she made her Paris debut at the Folies Bergères. Several sculptors, including Théodore Rivière and Pierre Roche, created sculptures based on these veil dances.
