Catalogue

The offer of our special auction “Italian Design” on 18 February 2020 includes, as always, the most diverse pieces of furniture, lighting and furnishings from 100 years of Italian design. Among the almost 270 objects are such rare pieces as the 'Tetralogia' floor lamp from 1970/71, by the design collective Roberto Gabetti/Aimaro Isola/Guido Drocco/Luciano Re. It was originally produced for an exhibition organised by Gabetti & Isola. It can now be purchased for EUR 6,000 – 8,000.

The list of renowned designers in this auction is long, a few names shall be emphasised, though. Mario Bellini, for example, who stands out with an imposing dining table, aptly named 'Basilica', a monumental and at the same time very clear design in ash wood from 1976, or, and we are very pleased about this, Carlo Scarpa, with one of his rare furniture designs. His 'Doge' dining table, 1968, is, like the somewhat younger 'Basilica', offered at between EUR 2,500 - 4,000.

Ettore Sottsass, always present in the form of his creations, stands out especially with his wardrobe 'Superbox' for Poltronova. This piece of furniture, designed in 1968, which was only produced for a few years, was bought directly from Poltronova by the consignor in the early seventies and is now available for EUR 15,000 - 25,000.

The absolute highlight of the auction is, once again, from the architect and designer Gio Ponti. His console table for the Casa Gragni in Rome from the 1930/40s, with inlaid burl wood veneer was professionally restored in the 1990s and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Gio Ponti Archives in Milan. For EUR 28,000 – 35,000, it should now find a new home.
