'Pond Farm' plate, probably 1940s
Marguerite Friedlaender. 'Pond Farm' plate, probably 1940s. D. 29 cm. Earthenware, glazed brown. Marked: Pond Farm, maker's signet (jar).
In the beginning of the 1940s, Marguerite Friedlaender emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States of America. Around 1942 she joined the 'Pond Farm' artists' colony founded by Gordon and Jane Herr. The artists' colony taught each aspect of arts and crafts. Unfortunately, the colony had to be closed in 1952, but Friedländer stayed there until her passing away in 1985, did pottery and taught courses.
