Wilhelm Zannoth
2 'Zanotl' table lights, c. 1974

H. 61 x 71 x 61 cm. Made by Design M, Ingo Maurer, Munich. Cork. Marked: branding.

The history of Design M is characterized not only by Ingo Maurer's own designs, but also by collaborations with other artists. From these projects a multitude of individual concepts with their own formal languages emerged. The characteristic element of Wilhelm Zannoth's designs for Design M was the exclusive use of cork as the material for both the bases and the lampshades. The simplicity of his creations ensures the materiality to become an even stronger focus of the design. Dagmar Mombach and Ingo Maurer focused primarily on the use of hand-folded Japanese paper for the 'Mahbruky' table lamp in the context of their MaMo Nouchies design series. By attaching lights and lampshades to thin metal rods and additionally incorporating reflections and asymmetries, the focus here lies much more on a playful lightness than on the creation of a simple formal language. Ultimately, both designers contribute to making Ingo Maurer's designs so varied and fascinating.
