Oil on canvas, drawn on cardboard. 62.8 x 47.8 cm (box), 75.0 x 60.0 cm (frame). Inscribed at the top right: Sultan Solerao, signed at the bottom right: Wilh. Kuhnert, dated: 24.9.(19)05 and inscribed: Mahenge (oil). Typographically inscribed on an adhesive label on the verso: Wilhelm Kuhnert Werkverzeichnis 07 01 2314 VI. Framed. The motif probably arose on Kuhnert's second expedition to East Africa, when he got caught up in the Maji Maji uprising.
