Pablo Picasso (1881 Malaga - 1973 Mougins)
'Nu assis, de profil', 1947
This work from 1947 is a wonderful example of Pablo Picasso's ability to remain expressive despite his minimalist style. He uses a few clear lines, through which the artist concentrates on the essential form of the figure, but without sacrificing a strong presence and sensuality. Picasso was a master at overcoming the limits of form and perspective through his own reinterpretation, a characteristic that runs through his entire oeuvre, right up to his late work. The particular impression of liveliness and movement that is conveyed is by no means lost through an almost sketch-like simplification of the motif. On the contrary, he manages to reproduce a unique physicality with casual contours and an absence of shadows.
