Pair of chairs, 1904
H. 94.5 cm; 45 x 47 cm. Made by K.u.k. Court carpenter Müller, Vienna. Elmwood veneer, inlaid friezes of rectangles of mapel. Backrest with motiv of a dove holding an olive twig; maple, rosewood and mother-of-pearl. Seat upholstered, covered in creamy-white satin. Hammered brass 'shoes' and cream-coloured satin.
The chairs had been part of an ensemble whose better part today is exhibited in the Badische Landesmuseum, Karlsruhe. The interior had been sold in 1977. Four chairs went to auction on 8 October 1977 in Monte-Carlo. One of these chairs was purchased by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, the other three went to private collectors.
