We are delighted to present over 300 objects by international designers in our 'International Design' auction on October 15!
The highlights of our offer this time come from Italian design. Ettore Sottsass' console furniture 'Freemont', iconic for the Memphis movement, will go for an estimated 11,000 - 12,000 euros. Just how radically the Memphis furniture differs from the designs of the 1950s can be seen in comparison to the gracefully elegant wall-mounted console by Ico and Luisa Parisi from 1949, which Quittenbaum is offering for an estimated 9,000 - 10,000 euros. Colorful pop design from the 1960s is also prominently represented. The 'Eva' armchair designed by Giovanni Travasa in 1965 stands out with its curved frame made of rattan cane and a seat made of bright yellow faux leather. The early version of the armchair produced by Bonacina is on offer for 2,000 euros. A red seating group by Tito Agnoli, manufactured by Arflex, also impresses with its dynamic design and bright red textile upholstery - two lots are on offer with estimated prices of 2,000 to 2,500 euros.
The designs by Munich-based lighting designer Ingo Maurer continue to enjoy great popularity. With two 'Scherenlampe' wall lights, we are presenting an early design from Maurer's manufactory. The chrome-plated wall lights, designed back in 1968, are extendable and are valued at between 1,500 and 2,000 euros. Several lots from the popular 'Uchiwa' series will be offered for sale: In addition to the wall lights 'Uchiwa III' and 'IV' made of bamboo cane and rice paper (asking price 1,200 euros and 1,600 euros), we are pleased to be able to offer you the ceiling light 'Ju-Ku'. The lamp, consisting of 19 rice paper fans, can be mounted in two different versions and is the eye-catcher of any room. The impressive ceiling light is offered for an estimated price of 12,000 to 18,000 euros.
In French Design, the architect and designer Eileen Gray is not only represented with iconic furniture design, but also with two important drawings. The 'Design Drawing for a Carpet', circa 1929, features clear geometric forms and is characteristic of the designer's early work. The 'Abstract Composition' dates from the 1950s and is also offered at an estimate of 8,000 to 10,000 euros. The chapter on Eileen Gray is rounded off with the 'Transat' armchair made of black lacquered beech wood and leather. Gray originally designed the model in 1927 for her home E.1027 on the French Mediterranean coast. A special feature is the black leather seat, which is clamped into the frame like a hammock. The elegant armchair from the 1970s/80s edition by Ecart International, Paris, has a reasonable estimated price of 2,500 to 3,000 euros.
The US-American designer Greg Lynn is represented in our offer for the first time. The armchair 'The Duchess' with ottoman, produced by Vitra in a limited edition of 12 pieces, is an extraordinary piece of seating furniture that combines an organic form with an unmistakable design. The gold-mirrored, alpaca fur-covered eye-catcher is estimated at a price of 7,000 to 8,000 euros.
Also on offer are Arne Jacobsen's classic 'Egg Chair' (estimated price 4,500 to 6,000 euros), a 'Tulip' dining table with five chairs '151' by Eero Saarinen (5,000 to 6,000 euros) and many other design classics that will make collectors' hearts beat faster.
We cordially invite you to visit us at our premises at Theresienstraße 60 to preview the lots!
